Warming Centers Open Amid 'Extreme Cold Temperatures' In New Canaan
Town officials are reminding residents warming centers are open in town amid extreme cold temperatures forecast throughout this week.

NEW CANAAN, CT — Town officials are reminding residents warming centers are open in town amid extreme cold temperatures forecast throughout this week.
Emergency Management Director Russ Kimes said in a news release Tuesday extreme cold temperatures with wind chills are forecast through the week.

As a reminder for residents, the New Canaan Library at 151 Main Street, as well as the Lapham Community Center in Waveny Park at 677 South Avenue, are available as warming centers open to the public during normal operating hours.
The following operating hours were provided by the town of New Canaan:

New Canaan Library
- Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Friday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Sunday: 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Lapham Community Center:
- Monday-Thursday: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Friday: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The town also provided the following tips to prevent frozen pipes in partnership with the New Canaan Fire Marshal's Office:
- Keep Garage Doors Closed
- Open Kitchen and Bathroom Cabinet Doors
- Let the cold water drip from the faucet
- Keep the thermostat set to the same temperature both day and night
- If you plan to be away during cold weather, leave the thermostat set no lower than 55 degrees
- For the long term, add insulation to pipes, attics, basements and crawl spaces
"Please stay safe and warm," Kimes said in a news release.
