ESSEX, CT — The Condé Nast Traveler recently released its list of "The Coolest Airbnb In Every State," taking readers on a coast-to-coast journey "from floating tiki huts to desert marvels," as well as a quaint-looking barn located right in Middlesex County.

The River Barn, a two-bedroom post-and-beam barn home situated in the small town of Essex, was the magazine's chosen best Airbnb spot in Connecticut. The home's unique look and old-fashioned exterior, as well as its quaint location, played a big part in the designation.

"Attention home cooks: The owners of this two-bedroom, post-and-beam barn trained as chefs," Ashlea Halpern wrote, "so the kitchen is set up with everything you’d ever need to prepare a memorable meal. (Even a waffle maker.) Bellies full, relax with a good book or board game in front of the roaring fireplace."

According to the listing on Airbnb, the historic barn boasts an old-fashioned exterior while the interior has been converted into a chic living space with many modern amenities. A "perfect retreat," the barn is ideal for those looking to take a break from city life or those working remotely.

Featuring gorgeous wide plank floors throughout, a dreamy fireplace and an eat-in kitchen, guests can also enjoy a private level yard that was once a pasture with a wood-railed fence surrounding it. A brand new deck located off the lower level can also be used for outdoor lounging and al fresco dining.

"We had SUCH a wonderful stay at the River Barn over Thanksgiving," one guest wrote in a review. "The barn is tremendously cozy and comfortable, beautifully designed, and well stocked with everything you could possibly need for a wonderful winter holiday."
