Original story:

Friday, the City of New Haven will attempt to break the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the world’s largest pizza party.

Spearheaded by Taste of New Haven in partnership with the City of New Haven, the world record attempt will occur between 3:30 to 7 pm on the New Haven Green in conjunction with the tenth annual A-1 Toyota Apizza Feast (“Ah-beetz Feast”) and the New Haven Grand Prix twilight cycling race, which go until 10 pm.

The existing pizza party record of 3,357 people was set by Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2023. Participants are required to eat at least two slices of pizza – and be observed doing so – to ensure proper counting, documentation, and authentication according to GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ rules. If the attempt is successful and once the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS judge validates the results, an award ceremony and presentation will be held onstage at approximately 7:15 pm. Following the ceremony, Taste of New Haven founder and aficionado Colin Caplan and New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker will hold a media available nearby the stage.

The world record attempt is a sold-out ticketed event between 3:30 and 7 pm. Following the record attempt, the Apizza Feast continues from 7 to 10 pm and is free and open to the public with over 70 vendors – including many of New Haven’s most celebrated pizza makers, a craft beer and wine garden, and other food and craft vendors – along with live music and entertainment and fun activities for all ages.
