Jury Finds New Haven Man Guilty of New Year’s Eve Union Station Stabbing: State’s Attorney

NEW HAVEN, CT — A New Haven Superior Court jury found Willie Dundy, 64, guilty in connection with the New Year's Ave stabbing in Union Station, according to State’s Attorney John P. Doyle Jr.
Dundy, of New Haven, was convicted of first-degree assault, carrying a dangerous weapon, and tampering with evidence.
According to Doyle, in the early evening hours of December 31, 2024, Dundy stabbed another individual twice in the back while both were present in the lobby of the Union Avenue train station in New Haven, based on evidence introduced at trial.

Doyle said Amtrak and New Haven police were on the scene of the stabbing "immediately" and detained Dundy in the lobby of the train station.
"During their investigation, a folding knife and a box cutter were located in a nearby trash can," Doyle said in a news release. "Surveillance footage showed Dundy disposing of the evidence after the attack. A witness bystander identified Dundy as the suspect to police."

The stabbing victim suffered serious physical injuries, was treated at Yale New Haven Hospital and survived.
Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 2, 2026, in New Haven Superior Court.
"People should be able to use public transportation in our city without having to fear for their physical safety," Doyle said.
Doyle "extended his gratitude to all agencies for their thorough investigation of the matter:" The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Gregory L. Borrelli who was assisted by Inspector Eric Tracy and Paralegal Specialist Rosa I. Vasquez. The case was investigated by the New Haven Police Department with assistance from Amtrak Police. The New Haven Fire Department and American Medical Response arrived quickly to render aid and transfer the victim.
