PHOTOS: Utah Man Places 1st, Utah Woman 1st To Finish Of 48th Annual Faxon Law New Haven Labor Day Road Race
For nearly half a century, runners have pounded pavement on the streets of New Haven from the Green to Westville, in the Labor Day race.
NEW HAVEN, CT — For nearly the last half-century, New Haven streets vibrated under the feet and wheels of more than 5,000 participants of the 48th annual Faxon Law New Haven Labor Day Road Race and its various races, including the Kids Fun Run, 5K, half-marathon, half-marathon relay, and 20K.
Streets were closed in parts of Downtown, Fair Haven, East Rock, Beaver Hills, Dwight, Edgewood, and Westville neighborhoods, with neighbors cheering on runners.
Less than an hour after the 20K race began, Connor Mantz of Provo, Utah, crossed the finish line and broke a 27-year record, completing the journey in 56 minutes, 16 seconds. The 28-year-old runner ran a 4.32 minute mile.

Meanwhile, the first woman to cross the finish was also from Provo, Utah. Aubrey Frentheway, 26, finished in 1 hour and 5 minutes, running a 5-minute, 17-second mile, placing 39th overall in the popular race.
'We Run New Haven'

Passing by Alden and West Elm streets — more than halfway to the finish — in Westville was Mayor Justin Elicker, who committed to run the 20K, which translates to almost 12 1/2 miles. Particpant number 129 wore a 'We Run New Haven,' t-shirt, almost drenched by the time he passed through Westville.
The 50-year-old finished the race in 1:27:33. He ran a 7:03-minute mile and placed 123rd overall in the race with 474 entrants.

The first person from New Haven to cross the finish line was 49-year-old Travis Martin. He ran the 20K in 59 minutes and 54 seconds. Running a 4.49-mile, he placed 17th overall.
