Puerto Rico Flag Raised On Green, Boricua Festival Celebrated By Mayor, City, Community Leaders

The 2025 Festival Puertorriqueño de New Haven, the annual daylong celebration of Puerto Rican culture, is set for Saturday on the Green.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Wepa!

Thursday Puerto Ricans United, community and elected leaders gathered to celebrate and preview the 2025 Puerto Rican Festival of New Haven and to raise the flag of Puerto Rico on the New Haven Green.

The Festival Puertorriqueño de New Haven, the annual daylong celebration of Puerto Rican culture, is set for Saturday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the Green.

"Thousands and thousands come to the Green for this festival," Mayor Justin Elicker said. A Spanish speaker, he greeted the crowd in Español.

New Haven Public Schools Superintendent Madeline Negrón, herself a proud Puerto Rican, promised that she'll be "dancing from 1 to 9" at the festival.

"It's about showcasing the beauty of our roots, the beauty of our culture and highlighting for our youth that we have made significant contributions," Negrón said. "We persevere because we give our all to this amazing country because we are Americans."

Saturday’s festival will include several live musical performances, dancing, food and vendors, family activities, and more.

The theme of this year’s festival is “Nuestra Raices – Our Roots.”

The event Thursday also included remarks from the event’s lead organizer Puerto Ricans United, Inc. and other officials providing an overview of the festival, the playing of the Puerto Rican National Anthem, and the raising of the Puerto Rican flag atop the New Haven Green.
