Dr. Keith Churchwell will be stepping down as President of Yale New Haven Hospital on August 11, 2023.
Dr. Churchwell’s tenure with YNHH has been impressive and impactful. He joined the hospital in 2014 as Vice President and Executive Director for Heart & Vascular Services, and quickly added other clinical services to his portfolio of responsibilities. In 2019, he was named YNHH’s Chief Operating Officer and one year later was named President. He was instrumental in guiding YNHH through the COVID-19 pandemic, and most recently has advanced several critically important initiatives, including service line development and access improvement.
To ensure a smooth transition, Yale New Haven Health System’s Chief Operating Officer, Pamela Sutton-Wallace, MPH, will serve for the near term as the executive leader of YNHH. In the coming weeks, Ms. Sutton-Wallace will work closely with Dr. Churchwell and the YNHH executive leadership team to ensure the continuation of key initiatives, including the hospital’s deep commitment to the community. She also will maintain her YNHHS COO responsibilities, leading essential transformation efforts and operational improvement at YNHH and across the Health System.

Ms. Sutton-Wallace brings a wealth of experience in senior roles at highly respected academic health systems including UVA Health and Duke Health. Prior to joining YNHHS in 2022, she served at New York Presbyterian as group senior vice president and COO of the Weill Cornell Division, providing strategic direction and operational oversight for four campuses.
We are grateful to Dr. Churchwell for his leadership and numerous contributions during some of the most challenging times at YNHH and we look forward to continued growth under the guidance and leadership of Ms. Sutton-Wallace.
