NEWINGTON, CT — A minor has been charged and arrest warrants for two other suspects are pending after an armed robbery took place at a Newington residence.

On Monday afternoon, a man went to a Robbins Avenue home to buy a knife from people he knows.

But after he gave them Walmart gift cards as payment, two minors and an adult man "brandished an axe and a hammer threatening the victim in an attempt to obtain additional money," police said an initial investigation has found.

Officers caught up with the juvenile after a short chase on foot, but the suspect began to resist them, resulting in one officer suffering injuries that required medical treatment, police said (that officer has since been released from the hospital).

The juvenile was charged with first-degree robbery, reckless endangerment, second-degree threatening, assault on a police officer, interfering and sixth-degree larceny, and has been assigned a court date in juvenile court.

Arrest warrants are pending for two additional suspects, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Newington Police Department at 860-666-8445 or Officer Mark Benham at mbenham@newingtonct.gov.
