2 New London Men Sell Drugs Near Middle School: Police

The alleged drug sales occurred near Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School in New London, prompting a school lockdown.

Two New London residents were arrested for allegedly selling drugs at an apartment within 1,500-feet of Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School.

The apartment in question is across the street from the school, the Norwich Bulletin reported. State and local police arrested New London resident Eric Cherry, 33, of 30 Lincoln Ave., Apt. 1, on the following charges:

  • Possession of narcotics (two counts)
  • Possession of narcotics with intent to sell (two counts)
  • Possession of narcotics with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Operating a drug factory

On Jan. 27, 2016, Cherry was arrested on the same charges listed above. On that same day in January, Shani Thomas, 31, of 30 Lincoln Ave., Apt. 1, was arrested on the following charges:

  • Possession of narcotics
  • Possession of narcotics with intent to sell
  • Possession of narcotics with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Operating a drug factory

At that time, police seized money, heroin, cocaine and a loaded .45-caliber handgun.
