
Acting Police Chief Peter Reichard issued the following press release:
On March 18th, 2013 the New London Police Department and staff members of the State of Connecticut, Dept of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS), Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program (TPEP), conducted unannounced compliance inspections of establishments that sell tobacco products. The inspections were performed in effort to determine compliance with state laws concerning the prohibition of sale of cigarette and tobacco products to youth under the age of eighteen. Â
Under the direction and supervision of DMHAS investigators, an underage youth, employed by the TPEP, entered the establishments and attempted to purchase tobacco products. A total of twenty unannounced compliance inspections were conducted on this date. Of this total, four establishments were found to be in violation of CGS 53-344(b), Sale of tobacco to minor under eighteen. The offending clerks at these establishments were issued an infraction in the amount of $200. In addition the Cigarette Dealer license holder at each establishment also faces additional administrative sanctions from the Department of Revenue Services. The following New London locations were found to be in violation of 53-344(b): Â
- Pump N Munch II, 423 Williams St.
- Sam's Food Store, 1 Ocean Ave.
- Sam's Food Store, 485 Ocean Ave.
- Golden City Restaurant, 206 Montauk Ave.
