
The 79 member New London Police Union Local 724 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Union, AFL-CIO (AFSCME) announced today their slate of candidate endorsements for Election 2012:
- Chris Murphy U.S Senate
- Joe Courtney U.S. House of Representatives for CT Second Congressional District
- Andrea Stillman CT State Senate 20th District covering greater New London
- Ernest Hewett CT State Representative 39th District- New London
- Elissa Wright CT State Representative 41st District- Southern New London and Groton.
The New London Police Union Executive Board passed a resolution of endorsement at Wednesday's Executive Board Meeting. "Our candidates care about public safety, represent working families and fight for the middle class everyday" said police union President Todd Lynch. "We believe that this election matters and it's important that everybody strive to get out the vote to put the right people back in office" he added.
The Local 724 Executive Board voted to endorse yesterday and we will now begin conversations with members and non members throughout the region to ensure a victory this November. "Our members realize that elections can make a difference and we look forward, ready to fight and ready to win as we stand side by side with these great candidates who have stood by us" added Chuck Flynn Executive Board
member.
As part of this support for these endorsed candidates Local 724 along with Connecticut Council of Police-AFSCME Council 15 has joined forces with several other labor groups and scheduled an organized labor political rally outside the Garde Arts Center prior to the Senate candidate debate between Chris Murphy and Linda McMahon on October 15, 2012. "We take our endorsements seriously and want
use this rally to excite our members of organized labor and all voters to get informed on issues that important to them and see why our endorsed candidates matter this election season" said Flynn.
