Arrest Made in Hit-And-Run Death of CT College Student

A Quaker Hill man was arrested after an investigation into the hit-and-run death of Connecticut College student Ahmad Anique Ashraf.

Quaker Hill resident James Sposito, 25, of 6 Clark Place, was arrested Thursday, Jan. 21, at approximately 6:15 p.m., in connection with the hit-and-run death of Connecticut College student Ahmad Anique Ashraf on Route 32 North.

The accident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. Dec. 18, 2015, in the northbound lane of Route 32. A passerby came upon the victim of the accident, and contacted the New London Police Department.

Ashraf, a 20-year-old student at Connecticut College, was transported to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

According to New London Deputy Police Chief Peter Reichard, an arrest warrant was issued for Sposito after an investigation into the accident was completed.

Sposito was taken into custody without incident and is being held on $150,000 bond. He was charged with the following:

  • Manslaughter in the Second Degree
  • Misconduct with a Motor Vehicle
  • Tampering with a Witness
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence
  • Evading Responsibility in Operation of a Motor Vehicle
