Police Seize Vehicle Involved in Fatal New London Hit-And-Run [UPDATE]
Conn College student Anique Ashraf died after being struck by a car Friday, Dec. 18, on Route 32 in New London.
The New London Police Department continues to investigate a fatal accident that occurred in the bound lane of Route 32 early Friday morning, Dec. 18.
Officers on the scene found physical evidence and were able to identify the vehicle as a 2015-16 Chrysler-type vehicle, Deputy Chief Peter Reichard said in a release.

An off-duty officer from the New London Police Department located a vehicle matching the description and contacted the New London Police Department. The operator of the vehicle has been identified by the police department, Reichard said.

Detectives responded to the scene and took possession of the vehicle, which was towed to the police impound for further investigation.

The accident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. in the northbound lane of Route 32. A passerby came upon the victim of the accident, and contacted the New London Police Department.
The victim, Anique Ashraf, a 20-year-old student at Connecticut College, was transported to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The body of a man found unresponsive on Route 32 in New London in the early morning hours of Friday, Dec. 18, has been identified as Anique Ashraf.
According to NBC CT, Ashraf of Pakistan was a class of 2017 Conn College student. His biography on the Conn College website states he was an art and international relations major with a minor in English.
Ashraf’s profile states that enjoyed the ceramic studio on campus, thrift shopping at the Salvation Army; getting a meal at Muddy Waters coffee shop and hanging out in Sarge’s, a comic book store.
Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or who has information is asked to contact the New London Police Department at 860-447-5269. Police said the vehicle likely has extensive damage to its front.
The Details
In the early morning hours of Friday, Dec. 18, the New London Police Department received at 911 call reporting a body on the side of the road on Route 32 northbound, near the Connecticut College entrance.
According to Deputy Chief Peter Reichard, a man was found unresponsive on the northbound shoulder at approximately 2:12 a.m.
“It was determined that the male was struck by a motor vehicle that left the scene,” he said. “The male was transported by New London Fire Department ambulance to the Lawrence & Memorial Hospital were he was pronounced dead at 2:34 a.m., as the result of his injuries.
