Boys & Girls Club Of SECT Holding Mud Run Benefit

New London after-school program invites residents to get muddy

There's still time to register for a Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Connecticut dirty benefit run.

Check-in and registration for "Gettin' Muddy For Kids" will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Fields of Fire Paintball Park in Mystic. Registration is $35 per person, or $30 per person for groups of four or more.

This is the first year for what the organization describes as a "traditional hardcore mud run." Although the event eschews such extreme obstacles as barbed wire and ice water, it will include obstacles for runners to encounter over the course of a five-kilometer trail run.

The Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Connecticut is encouraging families to take part in the event, although participants should be ages 10 and up. A mud run play area for children ages six and up will be available, but all children should be supervised.

All proceeds from the run will go to support the programs of the organization, which runs an after-school program with a focus on character building for youth in New London and Groton.

Runners may sign up online at this site or on the day of the event. For more information, contact 860-574-9040.
