Technically, it’s still fall until later this month, but talk of temperatures approaching 60 degrees in early December has people feeling a little ‘spring’ in their step.

If you’re planning on being out and about this weekend holiday shopping or going to festivities, plan on bringing the fleece and leaving the winter jacket at home.

We’re looking at plenty of days in the 50s and a chance of rain next week. Temps at night won’t even be that cold for this time of year either, according to the National Weather Service.

Record Warmth, Possible Storm for Mid-December

Numerous meteorologists are predicting record warmth for December, but there is a potential storm looming on the horizon.

Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan said:

“The weekend is looking awesome for sure. The only snag in the forecast? An offshore storm Tuesday/Wednesday of next week. Odds favor a miss although it’s close enough to watch. If it were to hit I would expect rain and not snow given how mild the airmass is around the region. More as we know it.”

Brad Field NBC Connecticut said:

“The next 2 weeks are prime for all your holiday shopping and preparations...mild & probably snow and ice-free through mid-month... but, you know me, I’ve got to give the snow lovers some hope...”

Field cited a possible storm in the forecast for the middle of December but said it’s too soon for specifics.

Here is the detailed weekend forecast:

  • Friday: Mostly sunny, temps near 50 degrees
  • Saturday: More sun, temps in the low to mid 50s for all of Connecticut
  • Saturday night: Mostly clear with temps in the low- to mid-30s
  • Sunday: Mostly sunny with temps in the mid to upper 50s
  • Sunday night: Temps only falling back into the mid-30s
  • Monday: More sun and temps in the low 50s
