Chilly Umbrella Weather, Candidates in the Hot Seat, And Can You Get There From Here?

1. It's going to be a rainy afternoon, according to weather.com. Morning clouds will turn to afternoon showers with a high of just 55 degrees and an overnight low of 35 degree. 

2. If you've got questions for the candidates running for City Council, now's your chance to ask. New London Landmarks is hosting a forum tonight at the Public Library of New London at 6:30 p.m. The main topic is preservation but expect additional questions from voters eager to find out where the candidates stand on other issues. 

3. Cupcakes, Tattoos? It's Gotta Be Halloween In New London! Steve Tefft, the winner of Ink Master season two, and The Sugar Bakery, winner of Cupcake Wars, will be special guests at New London’s Halloween Town. 4. In case you missed it: Police have released the name of the man who died after the stairs and porch collapsed at a New London apartment building on Monday. 

5. Public Transport On The Agenda: Tonight SEAT (Southern Area Transit District) meets at 4:00 p.m. at SEAT Administration Facility (Route 12, Preston). Yesterday, the Connecticut Public Transportation Commission held a public hearing in New London at the New London City Hall. It was the last of four hearings that the Commission held statewide this fall to gather testimony from the public, transportation providers, public officials and other entities concerning the operation of public transportation services, dial-a-ride and ADA transportation and other issues. 

The idea was to find out how existing services are meeting public needs and what improvements or new services are needed to address unmet travel requirements. Local and regional issues of particular interest included rider input on the expanded Shore Line East service, downtown New London intermodal connections, boating access at Amtrak’s moveable bridges, SEAT bus operations under State management, interregional bus connections from Southeastern Connecticut, and other topics of interest to the public.

The Commission will use the testimony received at this public hearing as well as from other hearings conducted across the state in preparing recommendations for its annual report to the Governor, the Commissioner of Transportation and the Transportation Committee of the General Assembly.
