CT Loses Jobs for 2 Straight Months: Report

Overall, 271,000 jobs were added nationwide in October, but Connecticut didn’t see those positive gains.

For the second straight month, Connecticut lost jobs. In October, the state lost 2,200 jobs and in September another 4,800 jobs were lost, CT News Junkie reports.

State officials conceded that the strong growth realized through August may be softening, but overall 23,800 private sector jobs have been added this year and another 300 government sector jobs have been added, CT News Junkie reports.

Since 2008, Connecticut has recovered 100,100 jobs that were lost out of 119,000 total.

Despite the negative jobs news for the past two month, the state’s unemployment rate dipped one-tenth to 5.1 percent.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman released the following statements in response to the Connecticut Department of Labor’s monthly “Labor Situation” report for October 2015, which shows that the state unemployment rate dropped one tenth of a point to 5.1 percent – its lowest level since March 2008, before the start of the Great Recession.

Governor Malloy said in a prepared statement, “Over the past year, Connecticut’s private sector has seen a net growth of almost 24,000 new jobs – healthy economic growth – and our unemployment rate has been steadily declining.

“We have now reached our pre-recession unemployment rate, a new and important milestone. While this month is comparatively flat, we’re no doubt seeing positive signs. We’re going to keep working each and every day to make even more progress and move Connecticut forward,” Malloy added in a statement.
