Daily Five: Give Kids A Smile, Miracle On Ice, Beah

Five things to know for February 22

1. A little warmer today, with a high temperature of 39 degrees and partly cloudy skies. The winds are gentler as well, and the overnight low temperature is 30 degrees. Sunrise is 6:33 a.m., sunset is 5:31 p.m.

2. The Community Health Center hosts “Give Kids A Smile Day” today starting at 9 a.m. This event provides free dental treatment to children without insurance including cleanings and sealants. Call ahead to reserve a spot.

3. The Public Library of New London concludes its Black History Film Festival tonight with Beah: A Black Woman Speaks. The movie, on the life of actress Beah Richards, starts at 7 p.m.

4. From punk rock to classical music, you can usually find a concert around town that you’ll enjoy. Check out the coming week’s lineup with The Sounds of New London, posting at 5 p.m. every Friday.

5. It’s the 33rd anniversary of the “Miracle on Ice,” where the United States’ team of college hockey players defeated the Soviet Union 4-3 in the 1980 Winter Olympics. The U.S. went on to defeat Finland to secure the gold medal.
