Daily Five: The Not-So-Rare New London Lynx

1. Some of my friends were disappointed with the lack of thunderstorms over the summer, so maybe they'll get a late season treat tonight. There's a 40 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms in the evening, following a partly cloudy and windy day with a high temperature of 72 degrees. Sunrise is 6:40 a.m., sunset is 6:38 p.m.

2. The Public Library of New London holds a preschool story and craft hour this morning. This starts at 10:30 a.m.

3. If you can get a break at 3 p.m., head down to Waterfront Park to check out the arrival of the Lynx. The replica War of 1812 privateer will sail into port at City Pier and give a salute with its deck guns.

5. It’s Dominion Day today, although we’re not celebrating Millstone. New Zealand recognizes this date as the anniversary of the islands receiving dominion status in the British Empire in 1907.
