Fire Damages Fast Food Restaurant In New London

Crews responded to the call early Friday morning, according to fire officials.

NEW LONDON, CT — A fire caused significant damage to a Burger King in New London early Friday morning, according to a statement from the New London Fire Department.

Crews responded at 2:56 a.m. to a report of a fire at the 429 Colman St. restaurant.

Firefighters found the blaze in an office. It extended into an HVAC space.

They were able to quickly extinguish the fire and keep it contained to the office area, but the blaze caused substantial damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Mutual aid was provided by other area agencies.

"The prompt and coordinated response by the New London Fire Department and its mutual aid partners effectively contained the fire and minimized further damage," Fire Chief Vernon Skau said in a statement.
