Funeral Service For Shooting Victim To Be Held Thursday

Calling hours for Jesus Pinero, Jr., will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Byles Memorial Home in New London. New London Police are investigating his death as a homicide.

As New London Police continue their investigation into the August 29 shooting death of Jesus Pinero Jr., the family of the 29-year-old New London man prepares to mourn. Although the burial will be a private affair, calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London.

Jesus Pinero, Jr., grew up in Hartford, the eldest son of Jesus Pinero Sr., and Nilda Rios of East Providence, R.I. He leaves behind a four-year-old son, Gianni, who lives in New London. In an interview with the Norwich Bulletin, Pinero's sister described him as an excellent father; his mother described him as a kind man.

Pinero's father conceded his son did have a wild side and he had run afoul of the law on more than one occasion, doing time for assault and drug offenses. The New London Police Department is investigating Pinero's death as a homicide. Pinero was shot at about 9 p.m. near the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and Prest Street in what police believe was a targeted killing.

Anyone with any information that might help the New London Police in their investigation is asked to call (860) 447-1481. All calls are confidential.
