Homicide Investigation Underway in New London

A woman's body was found in a Cole Street residence, police said.

New London Police responded to a suspicious incident near 53 Cole St. at approximately 12:02 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18.

“Upon arriving on scene, police found a 46-year-old deceased female in the upstairs bedroom of the residence,” New London Deputy Police Chief Peter Reichard said in a police report. “There were evident signs of trauma and the incident is currently being investigated as a homicide.”

A suspect at the residence was taken into custody on unrelated charges to this incident, police said.

Reichard said the incident appears to be isolated and was not a random act of violence. According to Trulia, the residence is a single-family home with two bedrooms, that was built in 1890.

The investigation is ongoing. The State’s Attorney’s Office and Connecticut State Police Major Crime Unit are assisting the New London Police and Detective Division with the collection of evidence at the scene.
