Homicide in New London Under Investigation

A 29-year-old New London man was reportedly shot on a Grand Street front porch. He later died due to the injuries, police said.

New London Police are asking for the public’s help after a man was shot on the front porch at 8 Grand St. At approximately 10:56 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, police responded to Connecticut Avenue near Grand Street, after receiving reports of several gunshots fired.

“While heading to the scene, additional 911 calls were received that reported a man down in that area,” New London Police’s Deputy Chief Peter Reichard said in a police report. “Upon arrival, police located a subject suffering from what appeared to be injuries consistent with a gunshot wound, on the front porch of 8 Grand St.”

The man, identified as 29-year-old Gilberto Olivencia, with a last known address on West Pleasant Street in New London, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, Reichard said.

He was pronounced deceased at 12:43 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11.

The case is under investigation. Anyone who may have information about this incident is asked to contact the New London Police Detective Division at 860-447-1481 or by submitting an anonymous tip to the Tip411 Text-A-Tip hotline, Reichard said. All calls will remain confidential.

Detectives from the Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crime Squad, inspectors from the New London County States Attorney’s Office and detectives from the New London Police Department are actively investigating the incident.
