
Hygienic Art is looking to populate a couple of its art shows and events this year, putting out a call for artists to appear at an annual Sailfest show as well as submit work to a juried exhibition.
Applications for the Outdoor Fine Crafts and Arts Festival, which runs from July 13 to 14, will be open until the festival. Submissions for the Eighth Crossing Juried Exhibition, which opens on April 27, will be received from April 18 to 20.

Oil painter Christopher Zhang will be the guest juror at this year's show, which is accepting each type of art medium. New London Harbour Towers is sponsoring the show and offering cash prizes to the top three pieces.
The gallery will receive submissions from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 18 and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 19 and 20. The entry fee is $15 for a single entry, $25 for two entries, and $30 for three entries. No works previously featured at the Hygienic are allowed, and pieces must be ready for hanging and available for sale, with the gallery taking a 30 percent commission. Pieces should not exceed five feet in any direction and sculpture should be easily transportable and weigh no more than 50 pounds.
Pieces that are not selected should be picked up from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 25 or noon to 3 p.m. on April 28. Unselected pieces may not be picked up during the opening. Selected pieces should be picked up from noon to 3 p.m. on May 26.
Outdoor Fine Crafts and Arts Festival
This festival includes cash prizes for several categories, a complimentary awards breakfast, and free admission to concerts at the Hygienic Art Park during Sailfest weekend. Up to 80 spaces are available, and vendors must abide by several regulations.
These regulations and applications to appear in this festival can be found on the Hygienic website. The application should be sent to the gallery with a CD or photographs of five recent works, a self-addressed stamped envelope for return of these materials, and a Connecticut tax identification number.
Applicants should also include two checks for entry and jury fees. Materials must be postmarked before May 10 for the early rate of $75 for the entry fee and $25 for the jury fee, while materials postmarked by June 7 will must have the standard rate of $100 for the entry fee and $25 for the jury fee. Applications received after June 10 will be granted based on space availability and require a $100 entry fee and $50 jury fee.
An additional $10 fee is required for booths that need electricity.
