Motorist Gets Stuck On Wall Trying To Leave Bates Woods Park

Motorist tries to leave park after being locked in after hours

A man and his father were given infractions early today after their vehicle got hung up on a wall while trying to exit Bates Woods Park.

Deputy Police Chief Peter Reichard said the incident was reported at about 2:44 a.m. Upon realizing that he had been locked in the park after hours, the driver attempted to exit between the football field and Little League field. The vehicle went over a three foot wall and became stuck there.

Reichard said the driver called Padgett & Sons, who in turn called the New London Police Department. He said Charles Malloy claimed his 92-year-old father was driving the vehicle and that he was the passenger, but that officers were not able to prove who the driver was.

There was no damage to the park, but some damage to the vehicle.

Both Malloy and his father were given infractions for being in the park after dark. According to a city ordinance, the park is open during daylight hours.
