New London Police Arrest Sex Offender

Abbot Dinoto, a convicted sex offender, was out on probation when he allegedly approached a teenage girl on her way home from school.

Quick thinking on the part of a 15-year-old girl helped New London Police arrest a convicted sex offender last week.

New London Police say that on December 19 at about 2:45 p.m. a teenage girl was walking home from school in the area of Bank Street and Braemer Place when a man stopped his car to let her cross the street. He then pulled alongside her, honked the horn, opened the car window and asked her if she wanted a ride.

The girl told police she yelled at him and told him to leave her alone, at which point he sped off. She immediately went home and told her father what had happened, and he called the police. The girl told police the same man had offered her a ride a couple of weeks earlier.

Fortunately, the teenager was uninjured and was able to provide police with a description of the man and with the license plate of the vehicle. After investigating the incident, New London Police located and arrested Abbot Dinoto, 69, of 44 Orchard Street #1, New London.

Dinoto is charged with criminal attempt at risk of injury to a minor and with breach of peace. Dinoto is a convicted and registered sex offender who was on probation at the time of this incident. He was being held on a $100,000 cash/surety bond.
