New London will have $714,846 in grant funds to go toward local programs, Rep. Joe Courtney and Mayor Daryl Finizio announced on Tuesday.
The funds are part of the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Community Development Block Grant program. The annual grants to state and local governments aim to develop urban communities through funding areas such as affordable housing and anti-poverty programs.
“For almost 40 years, CDBG funding has been making a difference in Connecticut communities,” Courtney said in a statement. “CDBG expands job training, improves our infrastructure and rehabilitates housing units in places that need help the most. New London has been hit hard in recent years, but this type of targeted investment ensures that people and communities that need help the most get it.”
