New London Tube: Alonsa Guevara's "Fugitivas"
Video looks at works in this art exhibit, which will be at Expressiones through March 16
This show is just downtown and you should stop in if it intrigues you. But if you don't have the time, there's always the video tour.
This video looks at the pieces in the "Fugitivas" exhibit by Chilean artist Alonsa Guevara, now up at Expressiones. The slideshow displays the full piece before showing detail of the oil and canvas artwork. It concludes with photos of Guevara at work as well as a gallery display of the art.
According to an event posting on the exhibit, Guevara's paintings are a mixture of fantasy and reality with a theme of stereotypes regarding women's bodies. Several of the pieces show models with their flesh replaced by fragile paper.

"It is a way of criticizing the dissemination of the unnatural female created by magazines and breaking down women’s obsession with stereotypes of beauty imposed by society," the post reads.
Guevara's work has been shown in Chile, Argentina, and the United States. She is currently enrolled in a Master of Fine Arts program at the New York Academy of Art. "Fugitivas" will be on display until March 16.
