The trip from Washington Street to Green Street takes four minutes on foot, according to Google Maps directions. It takes a little longer if you're making the journey with a piano.
This video shows the careful process of bringing the piano on casters down State Street, avoiding parked cars and traffic. A Monte Cristo Bookshop sticker adorns the piano; after all, the store owns the instrument.
The bookstore announced on June 25 that it would move from 13 Washington Street to 38 Green Street, holding its last day at the former location on June 29. The business said they consider that the new location has a number of advantages, including a spacious interior, large glass windows, and connections to their namesake author Eugene O'Neill such as the proximity to his old haunt at the Dutch Tavern. The building itself now offers artist studios on the upper floors.
The Monte Cristo Bookshop anticipates that it will reopen in its new location this week.
