The United States Post Office certainly seems to have a soft spot for New England's lighthouses.
In addition to releasing a set of five stamps, in which New London Harbor Light is included, the USPS made a short video on each of the featured beacons. This video is one of the ones included on their official YouTube channel.
The shot includes some familiar exterior views of the New London Harbor Light, but also journeys up the spiral staircase to check out the Fresnel lens and the view from the top. It made similar trips to the Portland Head Light in Cape Elizabeth, Me.; Maine; the Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse in New Castle, N.H.; the Point Judith Lighthouse in Narragansett, R.I.; and the Boston Light in Boston Harbor, Mass.
The official release of the New London Harbor Light stamp took place on Saturday during Sailfest.
If you want to make your own trip to the top of the Harbor Light, several visits are scheduled throughout the summer as part of the New London Maritime Society's "Sentinels on the Sound" programs.
