New London's Winter Parking Ban Begins Jan. 23
A general parking ban in the downtown business district may become necessary beginning Saturday afternoon.
The New London Police Department shared the following storm preparedness from the City of New London.
City of New London Storm City staff and emergency management personnel are closely monitoring the potential winter blizzard.
Winter parking restrictions will take affect at 8:00 AM Saturday morning. If parking is permitted on both sides of a street, parking will be permitted on the odd side of the street only. If parking is only permitted on one side of the street, follow posted parking regulations.

Overnight parking will be prohibited in the downtown business district from Saturday night January 23rd to Sunday morning January 24th. Parking will be free in the Water Street Parking Garage.
It is anticipated that a general parking ban in the downtown business district may become necessary beginning Saturday afternoon. The exact time of any parking ban in the downtown business district will be announced at 8:00 AM Saturday morning on the City’s website and Face Book page.

City Staff will attempt to accommodate downtown businesses to the greatest extent possible. Citizens are reminded that parking is always free in the Water Street Parking Garage during winter snow emergencies.
In addition to a snow threat, weather forecasters are predicting high winds, which could result in coastal flooding at high tide (8:29 a.m. Saturday; 8:49 p.m. Saturday; 9:14 a.m. Sunday; 9:35 p.m. Sunday).

Other storm related suggestions are:
Review and refer to the Red Cross website which is also available on the City of New London’s website
Residents are reminded to stay away from any downed wires
In deep snow residents are reminded to clear any basement level vents for furnaces and hot water heaters
Do not run generators inside homes, garages or structures as, it will become a severe carbon monoxide threat
Remember to bring pets inside
All coastal areas should pay close attention to flood warnings
Remember to shovel and clear your sidewalks after the storm
