Obituary: Johnny Dawkins of New London
Johnny L. "J.D" Dawkins worked as a 1st Class outside machinist at Electric Boat over 30 years.

Johnny L. “J.D” Dawkins passed away peacefully on Friday, December 11, 2015 surrounded by his loving family at L&M Hospital. He was the husband of Laurie (Johnson) Dawkins. Johnny was born on March 2, 1948 in New London, CT. He was the son of Herman Dawkins and the late Martha Jeter.
He attended New London public schools and worked as a 1st Class outside machinist at Electric Boat over 30 years. During that time, he was called to service in the U.S. Army. Johnny was a member of Victory Lodge #1096 for a number of years, serving in numerous positions. He was an active member in the John Coleman Prince #9 American Legion, serving on the Executive Board.
Besides his wife Laurie, he leaves to cherish his memory, one stepson; William H. Davis III of Massachusetts and one stepdaughter Kimberly Clements-Hudson of Waterbury. Two sisters; Lucille Dawkins and Margaret “Pinky” Debarras of New London. Two Grandchildren; Dwayne Clements Jr. and Kim Clements of Waterbury.

Two Great Grandsons Ethan and Noah. Niece , Tamara (Stephen) Goode of New London. Two Great Nephews; Josiah and Immanuel and Two Great Nieces, Tamia and Zion. A host of cousins and many friends.
A celebration of his life will be held Friday 11:00 a.m. at Miracle Temple Church 45 Broad Street, New London. Relatives and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
