Over 400 Presidential Ballots Cast In New London

Just over 400 residents who weren't registered to vote took advantage of a special ballot allowing them to have a say in the 2012 presidential race.

Residents who were able to prove New London residency could vote at City Hall during normal polling hours on Tuesday. The tally followed the voting trend of the city, with strong support for the Democratic ticket of Barack Obama and Joe Biden. The presidential ballots boosted the Obama-Biden vote in Connecticut by 360, while Republican challengers Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan earned 41 additional votes. The Libertarian ticket of Gary Johnson and Jim Gray and the Independent ticket of Rocky Anderson and Luis Rodriguez each received one vote.

The presidential ballots bring the total New London votes in the presidential race to:

• Romney-Ryan: 1,654
• Obama-Biden: 6,710
• Anderson-Rodriguez: 43
• Johnson-Gray: 93

Under state law, the ballots were available for any residents who did not meet the Thursday deadline to register to vote but still wished to take part in the presidential vote. People voting with a presidential ballot were not allowed to cast a vote in any other races on Tuesday.
