It’s a quiet week for New London events, according to the New London Main Street calendar, but there are still a few recurring and new things to do around town.
Two annual fundraisers to benefit a pair of New London community organizations will be held on Saturday. It starts with the FRESH New London annual plant sale, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the community garden at Williams Street and Mercer Street. Proceeds benefit employment programs for New London youth, and workshops on gardening will take place at 10 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m.
During the same hours, the Public Library of New London will have its annual book sale. If you can’t make it on Saturday, the sale will continue during regular library hours from May 28 to 31.
It’s the last week to check out a couple of art displays at the Provenance Center. David Fryburg’s photography display “The Essence of Intention: Mindfulness, Elegance, and Energy in Tai Chi Chuan” concludes on Saturday, while the artist collaboration “Chitrangada: Connecting the Polarities” will be up through Tuesday. Regular Saturday art classes continue at LQM Gallery, with 10 a.m. Chinese ink painting workshops and noon portraiture workshops. The cost is $28 for the former and $35 for the latter.
Regular music performances include the Common Ground open mic at Bulkeley House Saloon, starting at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, and Richard Zack’s fingerstyle guitar and Sunny Morning La La at Bean and Leaf. Richard Zack performs at 8 p.m. on Fridays, while Sunny Morning La La takes the stages at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays.
