Taftville Man Identified As Person Who Fell At Work Site

Nate Sutera was working on a ladder atop scaffolding at 36 Hempstead Street

A 46-year-old man was working on a ladder on top of scaffolding at a Hempstead Street residence when he fell on Monday, according to the New London Police Department.

Deputy Chief Peter Reichard identified Nate Sutera, of 37.5 South B Street in Taftville, as the man who fell about 45 feet while working at the triplex at 36 Hempstead Street. Sutera was taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital by the New London Fire Department before Life Star flew him to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

The scaffolding was in pieces on the ground when emergency responders arrived, and it was unclear whether Sutera fell between the scaffolding and the house or if the scaffolding gave way. Reichard said police conducted an initial investigation before referring the matter to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for possible followup.
