The Ambassador of Togo Comes to New London High School

New London High School will receive a most distinguished and rather uncommon visitor on Wednesday. The Togolese Ambassador to the United States, Limbiye Edawe Kadangha Bariki, will be at the school to speak to students on the topic of Future Leaders and Challenges of Globalization in Africa.

Freshmen enrolled in the high school’s World History classes will have a rare opportunity to learn about Ambassador Bariki’s experience as an ambassador and how he connects his work in the United States with efforts in his home country of Togo.

High school Science-Math Coordinator Zato Kadambaya encouraged Ambassador Bariki’s visit to New London High School as they both call the same African nation home.

When Ambassador Bariki was appointed, he contacted Kadambaya and other Togolese citizens in the United States for collaboration and guidance, Kadambaya said last week. This is the fourth time Kadambaya has invited Ambassador Bariki to Connecticut.

According to the Togolese Embassy, in 2004, Ambassador Bariki was a member of the Togolese National Negotiating Committee on Economic Partnership Agreements between West Africa and the European Union. In addition, he was chief of staff to the minister of foreign affairs and cooperation from 2000 to 2003, chargé d'affaires of the Embassy of Togo in Gabon from 1998 to 2000, and chief of diplomatic affairs in the presidency of Togo from 1996 to 1997.

Ambassador Bariki will begin his presentations to students on Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. in the Library of New London High School.
