What To Know For The New London St. Patrick's Day Parade

Over 45 groups will take part in the New London St. Patrick's Day Parade on Sunday, the parade committee has announced.

The parade will begin at 1 p.m., with participants staging on South Water Street and in Waterfront Park if need be. Marchers will proceed along a .75 mile route down Bank Street from the intersection with Tilley Street, turning onto State Street and then down Washington Street, ending at the Elks Lodge. A reviewing stand will be located at Parade Plaza.

Barbara Neff, a parade organizer and executive director of the Downtown New London Association, said the 45 groups will comprise three divisions. Neff said participants include local bands, civic groups, and youth organizations from around the region including the New London Firefighters Pipes and Drums, Connecticut National Guard, New Haven Emerald Society, New London Youth Talent Show, and Shoreline Roller Derby.

“The committee is also proud to announce they have raised all the funds needed to run a successful parade and as of today they have paid the permit fee to the city,” Neff announced on Tuesday.

Featured marchers include municipal historian Sally Ryan as grand marshal, Darcy Van Ness as parade queen, Gov. Dannel Malloy and Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, and the Celtic band The Swaggerin' Growlers.
