Winthrop School Principal Pied At CMT Rally [VIDEO]

It's not every day a student can hit his principal in the face with a pie and get away with it.

Principal Jaye Wilson agreed to be pied in a rally this afternoon to motivate the Winthrop School students who are taking the Connecticut Mastery Test. Students in grades three through five will take the test between March 4 and 15.

Carolyn Rowbotham, a literacy coach and CMT coordinator at the school, said the school wants the students to be aware of the seriousness of the test but not anxious. She said the school's curriculum has covered all areas included on the test, and students took a practice test today to help them remember areas that were taught earlier in the year.

"We recognize that it's a high stakes test, and we thought the pep rally would encourage them to come together as a school to do their best," said Rowbotham.

During the rally, classes competed to see who could shout "CMT!" the loudest. One student from the winning class was chosen in a drawing to hit Wilson with a whipped cream pie as she sat on stage. The lucky student: fifth grader Ryne Lee.

Wilson said Lee assured her afterward that he thought she was a good principal.

"If I can do this, you can rock the test," she told the classes.
