Youth Talent Show, Requiem, Ant1-Her0 Project

Art and music are, as usual, the big draws on New London Main Street’s calendar of events for the upcoming week. You might get a chance to see a little of both at the third annual New London Youth Talent Show, coming to the Garde Arts Center at 6 p.m. on Saturday; tickets are $10.

In other music, the continuing chilly weather means the indoor farmers market at Fiddleheads Food Co-op is a good place to be on Saturday. Check on the vendors, local food, and a bit of live music between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. On Sunday, the Garde hosts the Connecticut Lyric Opera for Verdi’s Requiem. Tickets are $35 to $50, and the show starts at 4 p.m.

New artwork comes to Hygienic Art on Saturday with the Ant1-Her0 Project, an amalgamation of illustration, graphic art, and performance art by Travis Gibbs; an opening reception runs from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. That’s also your last day to try out the art workshops for fourth and fifth graders starting at 11:15 a.m. at the Winthrop School. The Provenance Center’s guided discussions continue tonight at 6:30 p.m. with a discussion of the environment as an artistic medium; admission is $15. Continuing exhibits include Alex Matthiessen and Elisabeth McGinn’s "Right Next Door: Images of the Homeless and Those Who Help Them” at the Gallery at Firehouse Square, Brian Gorneau’s “Prize Inside” at the Provenance Center, and Angie Falstrom and Jodi Muench’s “Friends” at Studio 33.
