Memorial Day 2016: Cheapest Gas Prices in Newtown

Many will be traveling for the 3-day Memorial Day weekend and gas prices are at their highest point for the year with the national average increasing $2.22 to $2.28 per gallon, according to the American Auto Club.

"Despite this increase, drivers remain on target to pay the lowest prices for the Memorial Day holiday since 2005," AAA said in a statement.

AAA projects over 38 million Americans will travel this Memorial Day weekend, the second-highest Memorial Day travel volume on record and the most since 2005.

“Americans are eagerly awaiting the start of summer and are ready to travel in numbers not seen in more than a decade,” said Marshall Doney, AAA President and CEO. “The great American road trip is officially back thanks to low gas prices, and millions of people from coast to coast are ready to kick off summer with a Memorial Day getaway.”

Remember to take a moment this weekend to honor those who died for our country and those who still give of themselves.
