Newtown Board of Finance To Address Budget Transfers, Grant Impact Statements

The Newtown Board of Finance will meet to discuss several budget transfers, grant impact statements, and an appropriation for legal services

NEWTOWN, CT — The Newtown Board of Finance will convene on January 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Newtown Municipal Center. John Fletcher, Chair, will lead the meeting, which is open to the public.

The agenda includes a series of budget transfers and discussions on grant impact statements. Among the budget transfers proposed is $105,808 for police overtime. Additionally, the Board will consider a $5,000 transfer for Senior Services wage adjustments and a $1,500 transfer for Tax Assessor overtime.

Grant impact statements are scheduled for discussion, including those related to the NRCS Stream Bed Restoration and the NRCS Buy Outs Program for 228/230 Berkshire Road. The Board will also review a grant impact statement for the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program through the Department of Justice.

A special appropriation of $20,000 for legal services is on the agenda. This appropriation is designated for non-monetary claims defense and is intended to be covered by an insurance payout. The Board will also review a financial impact statement concerning the Connecticut Brownfield Land Bank/Batchelder Environmental Assessment.

Further discussions will cover the approval of a revised 2026 Meeting Calendar and the Capital Improvement Plan for 2027-2031. Unfinished business includes the approval of revised Contractor Insurance Requirements and Indemnification Policy. Voter comment periods are scheduled at the beginning and end of the meeting.
