Newtown Police Log: Warrants, DUI Stop, Burglary, And Disturbance Cases Reported
Newtown Police handled cases involving probation violation, burglary, DUI, and disorderly conduct between Oct. 22 and Nov. 2.
NEWTOWN, CT — The Newtown Police Department released a series of recent incident reports spanning late October through early November, including cases involving burglary, probation violation, disorderly conduct, and a DUI stop.
Vehicle Theft Warrant Served
On Oct. 22, Detective Fernando Pereira served a warrant on Malachai Diaz, 20, of Hartford, who was already in Department of Correction custody on unrelated charges. The warrant stemmed from an Oct. 22, 2024, investigation into the theft of a motor vehicle belonging to a local equine veterinary service. Diaz was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle (third subsequent offense), conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit possession of a controlled substance, conspiracy to commit third-degree criminal mischief, and risk of injury to a child. Bond was set at $100,000, with a same-day arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.

DUI Stop Near Church Hill Road
On Oct. 26, officers and state police received multiple reports of a dark-colored Chevrolet Avalanche being driven erratically on I-84 near Exit 10. Patrol Officer John Facto located the vehicle near Church Hill Road and conducted an investigation. Guillermo Martinez, 55, of Mount Kisco, N.Y., was charged with driving under the influence, operating under suspension, driving without minimum insurance, and failure to maintain lane. He was released after posting bond of $600 and is due in Danbury Superior Court Nov. 12.

In Connecticut, the legal blood alcohol content limit for driving is 0.08 percent for those 21 and older.
Burglary and Animal Cruelty Case
On Oct. 27, officers responded to a possible burglary at 2 Shelley Road and found evidence of forced entry along with a dog in need of medical care. The animal was taken to a veterinary facility. Delbert Henry, 37, of New York City, later arrived at the scene and was taken into custody. He was charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal trespass, cruelty to animals, refusal to comply with processing, possession of a controlled substance, and failure to keep a narcotic in its original container. Bond was set at $30,000 for a court date of Oct. 28 in Danbury.
Domestic Dispute on Sugar Street
On Oct. 29, police responded to a dispute at a Sugar Street residence. Katelyn Mastrocola, 24, of Newtown, was charged with disorderly conduct and second-degree threatening. She was released on a $2,500 non-surety bond and appeared in court Oct. 30.
Disturbance Near Currituck Road
On Nov. 1, officers responded to Currituck Road and Main Street for a disturbance report. Mariah Joy, 30, of Newtown, was taken into custody on an active warrant and charged with breach of peace, creating a public disturbance, and second-degree stalking. Joy was released on a $2,500 surety bond and is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 13.
Probation Violation
On Nov. 2, Ethan Correia, 23, of Newtown, turned himself in at police headquarters after learning of a warrant for violation of probation related to a Bethel incident. Correia was released on a $500 bond and is due in Danbury Superior Court Nov. 21.
All defendants are considered innocent unless found guilty in court.
