Update: Victim Of Fatal Car Vs. Pedestrian Hit-And-Run Crash ID'd: PD

It was just after 7 a.m. when 1st responders found the 65-year-old North Branford man dead after being struck by a vehicle that fled.

EAST HAVEN/NORTH BRANFORD, CT —The victim of an early Thursday morning fatal hit-and-run on Rt. 80 has been identified by police as David Horbal, a 65-year-old North Branford resident.

"Our heartfelt sympathy and condolences are with David's family and friends," North Branford police wrote in a news release.

"Our investigators are continuing to follow all leads in this case as they process all of the evidence obtained from the scene and surrounding area," officials noted. "If you, or anyone you know, has information which can assist us in this investigation, please call 203-484-2703. Callers may remain anonymous."

Early Thursday morning, a 911 call came in to the North Branford Communications Center about an injured person in the area of 97 Foxon Road, police said.

When police, fire and medical personnel got there, they found a "deceased male who appears to have been struck by an unknown vehicle, which subsequently left the scene," police said.

South Central Regional Accident investigation unit is currently on scene and will be investigating this incident, North Branford police said.

Foxon Road will be closed between the East Haven Town line and Totoket Road for an extended period of time, officials added.

"With deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased male, who will not be identified until notification is made to his family," police said in a statement.

Original story: Police from both East Haven and North Branford are asking motorists to avoid the area of Foxon Road, Route 80, in the area of the East Haven and the North Branford town line due to a serious injury motor vehicle accident in North Branford.

East Haven police report that Route 80 "at the town line will be completely shut down until further notice." North Branford police noted that the road will be closed between the East Haven town line and Totoket Road.

The South Central Connecticut Regional Traffic Unit is on scene investigating.
