Obituary: Dan Troiano, 93, of North Branford

Beloved by so many, he was a farmer, business owner, Town Council, Police Commission and Regional Water Authority member, and NY Yankees fan

Dan Troiano, 93, of North Branford passed away peacefully in his home on February 25, 2024. He was born January 2, 1931 in New Haven to the late Ciro and Jennie Vetrano Troiano. A caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, Dan is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Vivian (Vastarelli) Troiano, their four children Linda (Richard) Marra, Daniel Troiano, Marianne (John) Jillson, and Edward (Nancy) Troiano, thirteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and best friend Gary Bailey. Dan is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Roseanne Troiano, his parents and siblings, Gino, Pasquale (“Pat”), Sabatino (“Sam”), and Angelina Conte.

Dan grew up in New Haven before moving to North Branford in 1941 where he raised his family and resided for the past 83 years. In his formative years he worked on the family farm as a vegetable farmer, before partnering with his brother Gino to open their own excavation business, C. Troiano and Sons, in 1960. Dan was a beloved member of the North Branford community, having served on the Town Council, North Branford Police Commission for 33 years and on the Board of The Regional Water Authority for 10 years.

Beloved by so many, Dan defined himself by the close friendships he built over his lifetime. Dan’s passion was his business, working in his vegetable garden with his brothers, and pony pulling. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and UConn Women’s Basketball team. He enjoyed traveling with his family, vacationing every winter to Fort Myers Beach, Florida. and gathering every Sunday for family dinner.

The family wishes to thank his caregivers Nina, Betty, Felicia, and Cathy.

Family and friends may visit Keenan Funeral Home (330 Notch Hill Road) on Wednesday, February 28th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 29th at 10:00am in St. Therese Church (St. John Bosco Parish - 105 Leetes Island Road). A burial will follow at Saint Agnes Cemetery in Branford.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
