Child, 2, Wanders Alone, Woman Arrested: North Haven Police
A woman was arrested after a toddler in her care was found wandering alone Sunday morning in North Haven, according to police.
NORTH HAVEN, CT — A woman was arrested after a toddler in her care was found wandering alone Sunday morning in North Haven, according to police.
Police responded around 11:15 a.m. on July 6 on the report of an unsupervised toddler walking alone behind the State Street Café in North Haven.
Officers found the child, who police said was uninjured.

Police said a search for a caregiver found that Elizabeth Mortey, 20, of Windsor, was entrusted to supervise the child.
Mortey, a cousin of the toddler’s mother, had permission to bring the child to a church service on State Street, according to police.

“During the service, the child left without being noticed and wandered around the area unsupervised for approximately 20 minutes,” police said in a news release. “The mother was notified and responded to the scene to take custody of the child. The child was just shy of 2 years old.”
Mortey was arrested and charged with risk of injury to a minor. She was released on a promise to appear in court on July 31.
