“Color Your World” Horticultural Show at North Haven Memorial Library
The Daytime Gardeners of North Haven have been busy for the past several months preparing for a National Garden Club Horticulture Specialty Flower Show. The show will take place on June 28 – 29, 2019 in the Community Room of the North Haven Library. After judging is completed on Friday morning by certified National Garden Club judges, the show is open to the public on Friday, June 28th from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM. It will also be open Saturday, June 29th from 10:00 to 1:00 PM. The show is free to the public.
The organization of the exhibits follows the theme, “Rainbow of Colors”, with horticulture sections named according to the colors of the rainbow. Two Educational exhibits, under the title “Primary Colors” will be presented. Exhibit I is a display of information about xeriscape gardening with explanations and photographs that illustrate this concept. Exhibit II, “Daytimers and Scouts – Learning Together” is a display of two projects shared with the Girl Scout troops. “My Seed Sprout” teaches the growth sequence of a bean seed to a bean plant. “Colored Carnations” teaches about the capillary action used in plants for hydration.

Garden club members will exhibit plants and flowers they have been growing and preparing for at least the previous 90 days. Members have been learning from the club’s Vice President and past Flower Show Judge, Helen Nado, how to prepare their plant material for the show. Plants must not have any insect or disease damage. Plant material must be fresh as no artificial material is permitted.
Come to the North Haven Library Community Room on June 28th or 29th to enjoy the beautiful exhibits and learn more about horticulture. You may see some plants and flowers that inspire you to grow them for your garden and home!
