Fire Causes $100K In Damages To Business: North Haven FD

Crews extinguished a fire at a business in North Haven over the weekend, according to officials.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — Firefighters extinguished a fire that caused approximately $100,000 in damage to a business in North Haven over the weekend, according to officials.

Crews responded around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, to a report of an automatic fire alarm at a commercial building at 455 Sacket Point Road.

“Engine 2 under the command of Lt Cusack arrived on scene while returning from another incident and found smoke showing from the building’s exterior,” officials wrote in a post on Facebook. “Engine 2 investigated, initiated an interior attack, and notified dispatch to activate a working fire protocol bringing in additional units from Hamden (3), West Ridge Vol Co#3 (1), and North East Vol Co#4 (2).

“Interior crews were confronted with heavy smoke conditions throughout the building and located a machine on fire. The sprinkler system did activate and slowed the spread of the fire allowing crews to extinguish the fire. Aerial devices were set up for roof operations. Additional units performed ventilation and overhaul. There were no injuries to Firefighters and the building was not occupied at the time of the fire.”

Officials said the North Haven CERT team provided support at the scene to firefighters due to elevated temperatures.

The business, Connecticut Container Corporation, was temporarily closed due to equipment damage, according to officials.

Officials said the initial equipment and contents losses were estimated to be around $100,000.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the North Haven Fire Marshal’s Office.
