Loretta Holland entered peacefully into eternal rest on March 27 2025

She was well known at Stop & Shop during her time there, customers considered her their good luck charm while purchasing their nightly lotto

Loretta Holland, age 90, of North Haven, CT entered peacefully into eternal rest on Thursday, March 27, 2025.

Loretta was born in the Bronx, NY on May 29, 1934, the daughter of the late George and Helen McPherson, and predeceased by her loving husband George Holland, sister Althea Gonzalez and brother Gene McPherson.

Loretta spent her childhood in NY before moving to Stratford, CT where she was married and started a family. She was a dedicated employee who often held 2 jobs at once. She spent several years working at CT Savings Bank while also working at Macys part time. Once she retired from the bank she began over 20 years of service to Stop and Shop in Orange, CT where she met lifelong friends some which have become extended family. She loved working the service desk and would always come home with many stories to tell of her night. She was well known at Stop and Shop during her time there, and customers considered her their good luck charm while purchasing their nightly lotto tickets.

She was also the caregiver to her grandchildren and the children of her extended family. Their youth brought her joy and she was often seen with up to 4 kids in tow while running errands at the Christmas Tree Shops. Her favorite restaurant and meet up location was always Olive Garden. She would organize lunches with her friends and always make sure they all stayed in touch with one another, especially after retiring. She loved the NY Yankees as a Bronx native herself, and her home was filled with teddy bears and elephants. Loretta spent her free time knitting blankets which she would gift to her friends and family.

Loretta is survived by her children, Valerie Walker of Vancouver, Karen Walker of Florida and Michael Walker of NC, Donna Holland of CT; grandchildren Tanya Colon (Paul), Eliseah Jacobs, Aniah Glover, Paul Colon, Jr., Michael David Walker, Jr, Maya Lubell, Kameisha Holland, Caleb Hamilton and her many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, April 4, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Saint Mary Church, 70 Gulf Street, Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH). Interment will follow at Kings Highway Cemetery, 271 Cherry Street, Milford. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made on her behalf to the West Haven High School Softball Team, 1 McDonough Plaza, West Haven, CT, 06516, c/o Coach Bridgett Figmic.
