New Lacrosse Coach Named At North Haven High School

NORTH HAVEN, CT — Sam Barbetti has been appointed as the new head coach of the North Haven High School boys’ lacrosse program, Athletic Director Steve Blumenthal announced Tuesday.

Barbetti, a Guilford native, brings a “lifelong connection to the sport of lacrosse and a strong background as both a player and a student of the game,” according to a news release.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Barbetti to North Haven and we look forward to the leadership, energy, and dedication he will bring to the boys’ lacrosse program,” North Haven Athletic Director Steve Blumenthal said.

Barbetti played collegiately at the University of Saint Joseph’s, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management.

“During his time with the program, he was part of a championship-winning team and earned a championship ring—an experience that helped shape his understanding of what it takes to build, maintain, and sustain a successful athletic program,” the news release states.

He later advanced both academically and athletically at Pfeiffer University in North Carolina, where he began work on his master’s degree. While at Pfeiffer, Barbetti again contributed to a championship program, earning a second ring and gaining valuable exposure to high-level competition and strong team culture. These experiences reinforced his appreciation for preparation, accountability, and the importance of a unified locker room.

Now residing in East Haven, Barbetti brings a well-rounded perspective shaped by years as a student-athlete and sports management graduate. His coaching philosophy emphasizes the development of student-athletes both on and off the field, with a strong focus on character, work ethic, confidence, and personal growth. He is committed to fostering responsibility, pride, and a sense of purpose in representing the North Haven community.

The boys’ lacrosse team is scheduled to begin the spring 2026 season on March 21.
