Occupation:
Attorney (20 years)
Family:
I am married to the greatest woman in the world and we have two children, ages 14 (girl) and 12 (boy). Our children attend North Haven schools and my wife is an American Sign Language teacher. We have lived in North Haven for 10 years (prior to moving to North Haven we lived in Queens, NY).
Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?
No
Previous public office, appointive or elective:
No
Why are you seeking this office?
When I moved to Connecticut ten years ago, North Haven welcomed me with open arms. Since then, my family and I have built a life here and are deeply rooted and involved in its civic life.
I am running for Board of Selectmen to serve and give back to my town, which has given so much to me and my family – and to provide new energy and new ideas that help us navigate the times we're in and meet the challenges ahead.
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it:
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is a feeling of being out of control, unseen and unheard by our neighbors and government, paralyzed by division and seemingly unable to wrest back any semblance of national or local unity of purpose. I intend to lead with purpose and compassion, and to do whatever I can to remind people that when we focus on values, not politics, when we make a real effort to listen to each other and connect with each other we can begin to heal our divisions and repair our communities, and ultimately our nation. When people see their local government being responsive to their needs and concerns, when they see their local officials working together to solve problems and make life better for folks, people are reminded of the power of community to make us feel less alone and divided, and more connected and unified.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
I will effectively communicate and collaborate with all elected officials for a better North Haven. I will prioritize public safety and schools in our budgets, and will focus on growing our local economy. And I will unify and grow our Democratic party in North Haven, and show through action and words that we can be far more than just a minority party - we too can be leaders in our community.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
I intend to make local government far more accessible and approachable - and dare I say fun! - for our residents. It's vital that we work to engage as many people as possible in the process of local government -- more voices tend to lead to better outcomes. I'm all about good outcomes - not just for the few but for all.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
As a small business owner of a gym and fitness facility in North Haven, I understand the joys and challenges of entrepreneurship. As senior in-house counsel for a Connecticut-based Fortune 500 manufacturing company, I know what it takes to attract new businesses, create jobs, and expand our tax base. As a volunteer firefighter, I have firsthand experience and knowledge of what it takes to keep our community safe. I am committed to ensuring our police and fire departments have the staffing, training, equipment and technology they need to keep our community safe and secure. As a former public school teacher and parent of two North Haven public school students, I am a believer in the power of public education, and I will advocate and fight for the resources and programs our children and educators need and deserve so that our students are prepared for success — in college, the workforce, and beyond. As a civic leader, I am ready to bring fresh ideas, new energy and strong leadership to North Haven. These experiences provide me with a breadth of perspectives that I can lend to our town. A wide variety of skills are incredibly valuable when taking on a new role, and I intend to draw upon all of these experiences to inform my opinions and help me navigate my job on the Board of Selectmen.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
I have two for this one...(1) take all lessons without ego, and (2) work hard and be easy to work with.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
As Selectman, residents will see an immediate shift in how we talk about the issues that impact our town, communicate our message to voters and generate ideas and solutions for long-standing challenges. This job isn’t about being on the “Democratic team” or the “Republican team.” It’s about being on Team North Haven — and making sure every decision reflects that. I am deeply honored to have the opportunity to represent my town on the Board of Selectmen and serve my community. Thank you!
